ITM POLAND 2009: contracts despite crisis
15,273 persons explored the offer of exhibitors of ITM Poland, the largest fair of modern industry technologies in Central and Eastern Europe that took place in Poznań on 16-19 June 2009. Companies participating in the fair all agreed that fair visitors were professional and eager to gain insight into innovative products showcased at stands. According to exhibitors, this interest also had its tangible business dimension. Many companies concluded contracts, often worth millions PLN, already at the fair.
Prominent guests
The fair was held under the honorary auspices of the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Science and Higher Education. The grand opening was performed by Waldemar Pawlak, Deputy President of the Council of Ministers and the Minister of Economy. The Deputy Prime Minister visited the exhibitors' exposition, as well. Fair visitors also included Juliusz Engelhardt, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, and Henk Vanhoutte, Secretary General of the European Safety Federation. The fair was also visited by a delegation of representatives of the CMTBA Chinese Association of Machine Tool Manufacturers, headed by its Secretary General Wu Bailin.
Innovative exposition
The fair was attended by 953 companies from 27 countries and territories (Austria, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and the Ukraine and the United States). Like in previous years, the fair exposition was divided into thematic exhibitions, namely the Work Safety in Industry Exhibition, HAPE Exhibition of Hydraulics, Pneumatics and Drives, MACH-TOOL Machine Tool Exhibition, METALFORUM Exhibition of Metallurgy, Foundry Engineering and Metal Industry, SURFEX Exhibition of Surface Treatment Technologies, WELDING Exhibition and TRANSPORTA Exhibition. The best science and research institutes and R&D units presented their offer at the Research for Industry Exhibition. The participation of representatives of the Polish science at the fair was sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The exposition of ITM Poland, the „fair of tomorrow's technologies", was full of newly launched products that proved the most popular among visitors. This year, exhibitors showcased a few hundreds of new products, including the control system for CNC machine tools, a worldwide innovation, being an introduction to the research work on developing a prototype of an intelligent machine tool, a flying robot controlled by ground operator's head movement, the fastest wire cutting machine, a biometric terminal for hand vein pattern recognition for personal authentication, an intelligent pen for dyslexia diagnosis and therapy or systems for computer control by means of eyeball or lip movements ("mouth mouse").
Factory of the future
The advantage of ITM Poland is that you can see live machines at stands and often even try them out. What is more, the exposition also featured specially arranged demonstration areas, where you could test the latest technologies, machines and devices. The highlight of the SURFEX Exhibition was another edition of the Skills Boot Camp. Every day, at the special demonstration area there were shows of innovative solutions from leading manufacturers from the sector of surface processing technologies in coating and painting processes. And it was already the fifth time the Welding Exhibition featured the very popular Welding Academy, i.e. welding workshops where visitors had an opportunity to gain insight into cutting-edge products and technologies. Traditionally, the opening lecture was delivered by Professor Jan Pilarczyk, Head of the Welding Institute in Gliwice, the guru of Polish welding. This year's exposition of ITM Poland was enhanced by the FOUNDRY thematic park, organised in collaboration with the Polish Foundry Centre.
Experience sharing forum
An exceptionally rich programme of events prepared by Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie in collaboration with industry partners was a great attraction for ITM Poland visitors. The fair programme included a few dozens of specialist conferences, seminars, workshops, shows and business meetings. You can find a detailed fair programme at www.itm-polska.pl.
Awards for the best
Many awards were presented at the fair to winners of prestigious competitions. Gold Medals of Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie went to the best and particularly innovative products showcased at the fair. The competition jury comprised renowned scientific experts from industries represented at ITM Poland. It was already the third time Gold Medals were presented in the „transfer of scientific research results to the economic practice" category. Moreover, Acanthus Aureus awards were presented to best-designed exhibition stands implementing the exhibitor's corporate strategy.
Media at ITM Poland
ITM Poland media partners included „Nowy Przemysł" monthly, „Przegląd Techniczny" biweekly and www.wnp.pl Web portal. When organising particular exhibitions, Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie cooperated with dozens of magazines and industry portals. 190 journalists from Poland and abroad were accredited by the MTP Press Centre during ITM Poland. Daily press, as well as radio and TV stations, provided coverage from the fair.
Another event taking place during ITM Poland was the award ceremony of the 13th Polish Festival of Documentaries BAZAR. Presenting economy-focused TV programmes, the festival is organised to award journalists, authors of the most interesting public and commercial TV reports.
